Back-to-School Tips
By Ms. B

Summer is over! A new school year is here!
Are you excited?
Back-to-school season is here, and we recognise that it can be exciting and full of anxiety for some parents and students.
Do not worry; whether it’s your child’s first day of school or a returning student, we have curated some tips to make this transition smooth. Remember, you’re not alone in this journey. We’re all in this together.
1) Have a chat with your child
Sit with your child and chat about the new school or class. Reassure your child that they will have a wonderful time learning new things and meeting new people; they should try to enjoy every bit of it. Learning is a fun adventure!
For older children, ask how they feel about the new class/school; whatever response you get from them, constantly remind them to maintain a positive attitude and believe in their abilities to succeed.
As a parent, you want to encourage your child to share any fears or concerns they might have in school with you. Thrill their minds by talking about some fun activities they will be doing, giving them something exciting to look forward to.
2) Set Goals
Setting realistic and achievable goals is necessary to build positive experiences and stay motivated in the new school year. They can help your child have the right motivation and mindset in school.
You can ask your older child what they hope to accomplish in the new school year and then write a plan together to achieve those goals.
3) Get Organized
Create a list of what you need to do before resumption, such as:
- Tidy up or create a study/homework corner with essential school supplies such as crayons, pencils, pens, erasers, rulers, and sharpeners.
- Use a digital calendar to keep up-to-date with school information.
- Check all school wear and accessories.
- Having medical checks like deworming, dental, and immunisation
4) Reset
After the long summer holiday, it’s time to press the reset button for your child and creating routines is an excellent way to reset. Some of these are:
- Reduce screen time.
- Prioritise sleep (establish a bedtime routine)
- Create a balanced diet meal timetable.
Remember, try to stick to your schedule to maintain a sense of structure and productivity.
5) Make Time for Self-Care Cover It All in prayer
As a parent, helping your child through this new learning journey means you also must take care of your well-being. Prioritise self-care activities like exercising, getting enough sleep, eating balanced meals, and engaging in hobbies or activities that help you relax and recharge.
Don’t hesitate to seek help if you become overwhelmed. Asking is not a sign of weakness but a display of strength.
6) Cover It All in prayer
As you prepare for the new school year, take a moment to pause and pray.
Pray for wisdom, protection, and peace, for your child, their teachers, and yourself. Ask for strength to navigate challenges and grace to celebrate victories.
Whether it’s a whispered word in the morning or a family prayer before bed, inviting God into the journey brings comfort and clarity.
Conclusion:
Returning to school can feel exciting and daunting, but with the right mindset, strategies, and support, you can make it a successful and fulfilling year.
We wish you all a fantastic and productive school year ahead!
